Let's Play
Archive pictures are used to demonstrate and illustrate the features of this type of vintage Greist ZigZag Attachment.
Sometimes, I just have way too much fun making these stitch test samples. The decorative red and
metallic
ribbon trim was sewn on using the straight stitch feature on the vintage Greist ZigZagger Attachment.
The RickRack was applied using stitch design pattern cam no. 2-2.
Please!
Before you pass this incredible attachment up, read further and let me demonstrate the fantastic stitchery tricks this well made and very desirable sewing accessory can do!
I will show you why you want to
add this valuable well made
Sewing Treasure to your collection!
Let's start with the most unique stitchery magic your Greist Decorative ZigZagger Attachment
possesses
!
The 6 dinky dime sized Stitch Design Cams.
Each of the 6 design cams delivers a unique stitch pattern.
Included is a blind hem stitch cam (which I'll talk about further on).
~~~
I had so much fun applying each little cam, playing with the upper stitch tension, stitch width and length.
Doing this changed the patterns and the stitches significantly!
This was fun...
By increasing the upper tension on your sewing machine and using a contrasting thread color in the bobbin case...
You can create very attractive machine embroidery stitching!
See how the contrasting bobbin thread adds
clever detailing to the stitch patterns?
~~~
Adjust the ZigZag stitch from narrow to wide easily by loosening the screw and sliding the scale here (1-4).
Changing the stitch design cam is easy.
Remove the screw holding the cam and replace it with the desired stitch cam.
Replace the screw and voila!
~~~~~~
Let's Play Some More!
The Greist ZigZag Attachment foot does not have the
little blue metal cording guide that
I'm used to using on
my
Singer ZigZag Attachment.
But, it does have a cord/braid
channel under the floating foot.
What this means is, you can embellish your work with cord such as soutache braid or rat tail, tiny ribbon, teeny Rick Rack or other fun trims which will fit the cording channel.
Choose one of the 6 decorative stitch design cams.
Adjust the stitch width to encase the trim!
How fun is that?
~~~~~~
Your incredible little Greist ZigZag Attachment can change from zigzag to straight stitch instantly.
See the pawl with the end sitting in the ratchet wheel?
Flip it back gently to disengage the zigzag.
Ready for straight stitching.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
By the way, when using the blind hem stitch cam, the pawl MUST start in the right notch (diagram above) or else the stitch Zagging out to stitch the hem will Zag to the right instead of the left.
The instructions will tell you this, but not why.
It can be a surprise if you aren't prepared.
~~~~~~~~~~
Having Fun?
Let's talk about the blind hem stitch cam and some of the ways you can use this essential stitch cam to make sewing fun, creative and easy!
I was asked to demonstrate inserting Rick Rack using the blind stitch cam step by step...
Directions below for
trim inserts
such as Rick Rack are NOT included in the original instruction manual for this attachment.
These instructions are included in the bonus supplemental commentary.
Adjust the stitch length on your sewing machine so the Zag stitch matches the wave edge of the Rick Rack.
Run the Rick Rack along the edge of the right side of your fabric leaving a seam allowance which will be folded back after sewing the Rick Rack to the fabric.
Fold the edge back and flip the fabric over.
Right side to right side, leaving the same amount of seam allowance, set up your Greist ZigZag blind hem stitch to catch the opposite crest/edge of the Rick Rack as you sew it to another fabric.
It is THAT easy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Want more? Here is an idea.
Beautiful Crisp Pin Tucks!
Using the blind hem cam, off set the cam. That is, rather than sitting the pawl correctly to cause the Zag (bite) stitch to stitch left, sit the pawl in any other notch and the Zag (bite) will stitch to the right!
Fold your fabric and stitch close to the fold letting the Zag stitch of the blind hem cam pierce the edge of the fold to the right.
See the stitching? Have fun with contrasting threads for an imaginative detailed look.
Fold and repeat for pretty pretty pretty pin tucks!
Use a contrasting thread with a stitch pattern cam and be creative.
Do you need any more reasons to add this
Awesome little Greist ZigZag Attachment to your sewing accessories?
Well...OK
The Blind Hem Stitch Cam Will Make Machine Applique a Breeze!
Let me show you.
Tuck the straight stitches in close to the fold of the applique (similar to "stitching in the ditch" during machine quilting).
The 6th stitch (the Zag) will bite the applique stitching it down.
Red stand-out thread demonstrates how easily your
vintage Greist Zigzagger is your
go-to attachment for machine applique!
Now see what happens when you use a matching thread...
There you have it!
